Banking Code

Desk Lamp

We abide by the voluntary Banking Code which sets out standards for dealing fairly with you and giving you the information you need to choose and run your accounts.

Where can I get a copy?

A copy of the Code is available free on request from St. James’s Place Bank. Just call 0845 602 6200. Or you can download a copy from the British Bankers' Association website.

What is the Banking Code?

The Banking Code sets the minimum standards of service that personal clients can expect from all banks and building societies which subscribe to the Code.

What does the code cover?

The Code makes 8 key promises or commitments to clients about the way in which products and services are provided.

The Code covers the responsibilities of banks and building societies and what you can expect in connection with:

  • Information about your accounts, changes affecting your accounts and choosing products and services;
  • How your accounts operate, switching your account, your cards, PINs, and any lending and foreign exchange transactions;
  • Protection for all your personal information, your accounts, your cheque book, cards, electronic purses, PINs, passwords and how we treat this information;
  • Lending responsibly and identifying what can be done if you find yourself in financial difficulties, or if you wish to complain to your bank or building society or to the Independent Banking or Building Society Ombudsmen.

Who produces it?

The Banking Code is published by the British Bankers’ Association, The Building Societies Association and the Association for Payment Clearing Services.
